What is credit scoring?

Credit scoring is a system that creditors use that measures a variety of personal financial factors and awards points based on each individual's performance in these factors. How often your bills are paid on time, whether or not you have missed a payment, the length of your current employment - these are all factors affecting your score. The higher your score, the better chance you will be approved for credit, and, more importantly to those seeking to be debt free, the lower your interest rate. A lower interest rate, of course, means that more of your payments go to helping you become debt free.
